Located in Cobb County, Marietta City Schools are governed by their own school board serving approximately 8,000 students. The city's 12 schools are known for their high level of academic success and count four Georgia Schools of Excellence and one National School of Excellence among their ranks. Additionally, Newsweek named Marietta High School as one of the best high schools in the nation for the second year in a row — placing it among the top 5% of all high schools in America in both 2006 and 2007.
The city's school nutrition program is another source of pride, collecting numerous awards and accolades including the 2007 LISN Award. Marietta schools have also been singled out for their success at narrowing achievement gaps between various student populations. Teachers in the system are getting tech savvy with a program that gives them each a laptop when they're hired. Many parents are also attracted to the low student-to-teacher ratio, which rests at just 18 to 1.
